We only recommend services and equipment we use ourselves; consequently just because we don't recommend something, doesn't mean it's not good; it means we don't know it well enough to make a recommendation.

In the absence of direct knowledge, a great source of intelligence on ADSL providers is http://www.adslguide.org/. There is also an 'availability checker' to see whether your telephone line is capable of delivering ADSL.

We (and many of our clients) use PlusNet. What we like about them is their support. They publish service status on their website and although they have an effective help and support ticketing system on their site, you can also talk to a real person, should the need arise. In terms of reliability we've rarely suffered service interruptions.

It is worth understanding that whilst you will contract with a particular provider, the ADSL equipment at the exchange is mostly controlled by BT and your provider is dependent on BT to rectify some faults.
